Temple Run is a classic endless runner game developed and released by Imangi Studios in 2011. Demon monkeys wearing skull masks chase an explorer as they attempt to escape from an ancient temple. The only goal is to run as far as possible, avoiding obstacles and collecting gold coins along the way.
How to play Temple Run
The character in Temple Run moves automatically forward. Players need to swipe left or right to turn, swipe up to jump, and swipe down to slide through traps or narrow gaps. Quick reflexes and high accuracy are the deciding factors for achieving high scores.

Origin and Development
Temple Run was created by Keith and Natalia Shepherd, the founders of Imangi Studios. The game was initially available for purchase, but after a few weeks, they decided to release it for free and monetize it through in-game items. This decision helped Temple Run become a global phenomenon, paving the way for the popular “free-to-play” model later on.
The success of Temple Run spurred the creation of many similar titles, such as Subway Surfers, Minion Rush and Sonic Dash, and laid the foundation for the endless runner genre on mobile devices.
Sequels
Following the success of the original, Imangi released Temple Run: Brave (in collaboration with Disney, 2012) and Temple Run 2 (2013), which expanded the setting, vehicles and items.
In the following years, the company continued to release several spin-off versions, such as Temple Run: Oz, Temple Run VR and Temple Run: Puzzle Adventure, but none of them achieved the same level of success as the first.
Temple Run quickly became one of the most popular mobile games of the 2010s, with hundreds of millions of downloads worldwide. Although the endless runner genre is no longer in its heyday, Temple Run is still considered a pioneer of this trend and one of the games that helped shape the modern mobile gaming market.
